So they're a little late....
Just picked up a really neat book today called "The Vulgar Tongue" by Captain Francis Grose. Originally published in London in 1785, it contained two parts. The Cant language (slang or gutter English) and burlesque terms (terms usually heard at sea, in the military or at parties). It's just chock full of interesting definitions --
Flaybottomist - a teacher
Son of Prattlement - a lawyer
Apple dumplin shop - a woman's bosom
Jobation - a reproof
Frummagemed - choked, strangled or hanged
Dowse on the Chops - to take a blow to the face
Gentleman of Three Outs - a man without money, without wit and without manners
Gentleman of Three Ins - a man in debt, in jail and in danger of being killed
Owlers - those who smuggle wool to France
